School Immunization Requirements

Georgia School Immunization Requirements

School Immunization-Whether your child is going to daycare for the first time, or heading to college, Georgia requires that certain vaccinations be completed before allowing them to attend public schools or universities. To understand which vaccinations your child will need for each stage, read the following vaccination information from the kid specialists at AGC Pediatrics.

Childcare Age Vaccinations

For children of four years of age, or those entering childcare for the first time, the following immunizations are required:

  • DTAP: 3 doses
  • Hep A: 2 doses
  • Hep B: 3 doses
  • HIB: 3-4 doses
  • MMR: 1 dose
  • PCV: 4 doses
  • Polio: 3-4 doses
  • VAR (Varicella): 1 dose

Kindergarten & Elementary Age Vaccinations

In Georgia, children entering kindergarten for the first time are required to have the following vaccinations:

  • DTAP: 3 doses
  • Hep B: 3 doses
  • MMR: 2 doses
  • Polio: 3 doses
  • VAR: 2 doses

Middle School Age Vaccinations

For students entering middle school in Georgia for the first time, the following vaccinations are required:

  • VAR:2 doses, a physician’s diagnosis, or disease history
  • MMR: 2 doses
  • Hep B: 3 doses

College Age Vaccinations

Before your child starts their first semester at college, these vaccinations may be required:

  • MMR: 2 doses
  • MCV4 (Meningococcal): Vaccine or signature indicating receipt of info about vaccine

School Vaccination Exemptions

While the vaccinations listed above are required by the state of Georgia in order for your child to attend school, there are certain exemptions to these laws. Your child may be exempt from the required immunizations temporarily if indicated by a doctor for medical reasons. They may also be exempt permanently if there is a religious reason.
